Rambler starts annulling deal with Lynwood after suit against Nginx

MOSCOW, Dec 18 (PRIME) -- Russian media holding Rambler Internet Holding, widely known as Rambler Group, has started to terminate a contract with Lynwood, to which the holding ceded the reclamation rights in 2015 related to violation of rights for web service Nginx, a holding spokesperson told PRIME late on Tuesday.

“On orders of the board of directors, Rambler Group has triggered dissolution of a contract with Lynwood. After that, we’ll go to the law enforcement agencies with a request to drop criminal charges and turn to Nginx’s founders and representatives of F5 Networks to hold mutual consultations to settle the situation,” the spokesperson said.

Lynwood had initiated the case, because it thought that Nginx was a product of Rambler’s former employee and any use of this program without Rambler’s consent violated its exclusive rights.

Nginx was designed in early 2000s by Igor Sysoyev. Sysoyev together with another Rambler employee, Maxim Konovalov, established Nginx in 2011. U.S. firm F5 Networks acquired the business in spring for U.S. $670 million. The Nginx office in Moscow was earlier searched under the case.
